The Republic | Issue No. 3 | October 2026

We love seeing the different ways Flow Republic becomes part of your week, whether through a regular class, a moment of stillness or time spent connecting with others.

As our community continues to grow, so do the opportunities to explore your practice. This month, we’re introducing new ways to begin the day, sharing what’s ahead for our retreats and getting to know one of the teachers who makes Flow Republic what it is.

We look forward to sharing it with you.

PRACTICE SPOTLIGHT

TWO NEW WAYS TO BEGIN YOUR DAY

a dedicated time for breath and mindfulness

Our morning timetable has expanded with two new 30-minute practices, creating space to explore pranayama and meditation beyond the movement of a traditional yoga class.

Join us after an early Flow class or arrive for a standalone practice. Both offer a considered way to begin the day with greater awareness and intention.

Pranayama with Sarah
Tuesdays & Fridays · 7:45am · All levels Welcome

Breath is central to yoga, yet its full potential extends well beyond the mat.

In this dedicated practice with Sarah, gentle movement helps ease overnight stiffness and awaken the body before transitioning into pranayama, the traditional practice of conscious breathing.

Through a considered sequence of breathing techniques, explore the relationship between breath, body and mind, cultivating greater awareness, steadiness and ease.

Open to all levels, with guidance to explore at your own pace.

Mindful Mornings
Mondays, Wednesdays & Thursdays · 7:45am · All levels Welcome

A quieter start to the day.

Mindful Mornings offers dedicated time for meditation through guided practices that cultivate awareness, focus and inner steadiness.

Working with mindfulness and the breath, each session invites you to slow down, turn your attention inward and create space before the day unfolds.

COASTAL CALM

Friday - Sunday | 27 - 29 November 2026 | Launa | Killcare Heights

Three days to slow down on the Central Coast.

Join Christina and Corinne for Coastal Calm, Flow Republic’s first weekend retreat, set within seven acres of natural surrounds on the edge of Bouddi National Park.

Each day offers a balance of dynamic movement and restorative practice, with mornings on the mat to awaken the body and evening sessions to unwind. Guided meditation and sound invite further stillness, creating space to reconnect with yourself away from the pace of everyday life.

Beyond the mat, the days are yours to shape. Take a swim in the heated pool, explore nearby beaches and coastal trails, enjoy long afternoons in the sun or simply rest.

Plant-based meals, thoughtfully prepared by chef Khanh Doan, will be shared throughout the retreat, leaving you free to settle into the experience without the usual distractions.

A considered few days of movement, nourishment, connection and time to yourself.

A full brochure is available on request.

TEACHER SPOTLIGHT

MEET ELENI

Eleni, yoga instructor at Flow Republic.

From competitive swimming to yoga, Eleni’s relationship with movement has evolved from performance towards exploration.

Her teaching brings together thoughtful sequencing, room to play and an appreciation for the value of slowing down.

This month, Eleni shares what brought her to yoga, the lessons shaping her teaching and where you’ll find her beyond the studio.

What first brought you to yoga, and what keeps you coming back?

I first found yoga at a time when I felt really disconnected from my body. I came from a competitive swimming background in my teens, and movement had become all about performance and pushing harder.

Yoga helped me reconnect with my body in a way that felt safe, supportive and enjoyable. From there, I discovered everything else it had to offer: mental resilience, clarity and creativity, the freedom of the breath, and the joy of exploring all these weird and wonderful shapes. I’ve never looked back.

What do you hope students experience in a class with you?

Life moves pretty fast, especially in a city like Sydney. I hope students leave class feeling like they’ve slowed down a little, breathed a little deeper and moved with a little more intention. More than anything, I want to create a space that feels supportive enough to explore, challenge yourself when it feels right, and have a bit of fun along the way.

Is there a lesson from your own practice that’s shaping your teaching at the moment?

The idea of sthira sukham, balancing effort and ease, is a big one at the moment. Early on, I felt like I needed to teach the most interesting sequences or the biggest ideas, and I probably put a lot of pressure on myself to make every class “more.”

Over time, I’ve realised that authenticity is far more valuable. I’ll always put a lot of care into planning my classes, but I’ve learnt to trust my own experience and teach from a place that feels genuine. I think students connect with that much more than perfection.

Outside the studio, where are we most likely to find you?

Outside somewhere with my dog, who firmly believes every body of water is an open invitation for a swim.

You can practise with Eleni every Wednesday:

6:30 am · Flow

7:45 am · Mindful Mornings

Santosha (संतोष)

Pronounced: sun-toh-sha

Finding contentment in what is, rather than waiting for what might be.

Santosha, meaning contentment, is the second of the Niyamas in Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras. It invites us to cultivate a sense of ease with the present moment, not through resignation or complacency, but through an appreciation of what is already here.

In a world that continually encourages us to strive for more, it can be easy to place happiness just beyond our reach. The next achievement, the next milestone or the next change in circumstance can begin to feel like the thing that will finally bring us satisfaction.

Santosha offers a different perspective. It reminds us that while we can continue to grow, change and work towards what matters to us, we can also find contentment in the life we are living now.

From Aparigraha to Santosha

In our previous issue, we explored Aparigraha, the practice of letting go of attachment and the need to hold on. Santosha offers a natural continuation of this idea. As we loosen our grip on what we believe we need, we create space to appreciate what is already present.

Santosha on the Mat

The practice of contentment often reveals itself in small moments. Perhaps it’s noticing the urge to compare your practice with the person beside you, wishing for greater flexibility or feeling frustrated when a posture doesn’t come as easily as it once did.

Santosha invites us to meet these moments differently. To recognise what the body offers today, to work with our energy as it is, and to find value in both the challenging postures and the simplest moments of stillness.

The practice isn’t about abandoning effort or ambition. It’s about allowing ourselves to be present without making our experience conditional on something being different.

Taking Santosha Beyond the Mat

The next time frustration arises, whether in traffic, during a long day or when plans don’t unfold as expected, pause for a moment. Take a breath and notice the difference between acknowledging a situation and resisting the fact that it is happening.

You might also take a moment at the end of the day to recognise three things you appreciate about your life as it is now. Not as a reason to stop growing, but as a reminder that there is value in the present, too.

A Reflection to Carry With You

Where in your life are you waiting for something to change before allowing yourself to feel content?

Perhaps Santosha begins with the simple act of noticing what is already enough.

STUDIO ETIQUETTE

caring for our shared space

The experience of a class begins before the first movement.

As you arrive, please leave shoes and phones outside the shala, and keep conversations to reception and the tea area.

Within the practice space, a quieter atmosphere gives everyone the opportunity to settle in, turn their attention inward and prepare for the class ahead.

Thank you for helping us maintain a considered, welcoming environment for everyone who practises here.
